Lay of the Land console commands
All common Lay of the Land console commands in one place: creative testing, recovery, and content capture. This is not a replacement for the survival beginner guide—it is a safety net for builders and streamers.
Exact syntax can shift across patches; verify in-game help if a command fails after updates. Backup saves before experimenting.
Opening the console
Most PC builds use tilde (~) or a designated debug key. Enable commands only in worlds where you accept non-survival outcomes—achievements and progression flags may change when cheats are active.
Document the seed before altering terrain; creative fly makes it easy to lose track of coordinates when you return to legit play.
Essential commands
Movement
fly
Toggles flight for scouting builds. Use walk to
ground yourself when testing collision near bases.
noclip Where supported, passes through voxels for wiring checks—never leave enabled in shared survival worlds.
World info
seed Prints or copies the world seed for sharing speedrun routes or bug reports.
time set <value> Adjusts daylight for screenshots; watch fire spread if you skip night artificially.
Creative mode
-
creative— infinite items where implemented, god mode toggles, and fast iteration for building prototypes. -
give <item> <amount>— spawn stacks for recipe tests, e.g.give iron_ingot 64after verifying item ids. -
tp <x> <y> <z>— teleport for long-distance checks; note y-axis hazards like caves and lava. -
heal/kill <target>— sandbox utilities; avoid in multiplayer without consent.
Debug & capture helpers
Some builds expose wireframe, chunk borders, or physics vectors for debugging voxel interactions. These are valuable when crafting combinations fail silently—use them briefly, then disable to preserve immersion.
For repeatable bug reports, pair command output with the world seed and a short clip; developers can reproduce faster with coordinates and patch version notes.
Warnings
- Backup worlds before enabling creative or give floods.
- Cheats may disable achievements or mark saves as non-vanilla.
- Multiplayer etiquette: ask before spawning items or teleporting players.
